Speech on Goal Setting - 1079 Words

You may have heard me say, â€Å"It’s better to aim for the stars and miss, than to aim for a pile of crap and hit it.† The original saying is from Michelangelo. He said, â€Å"The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we hit it.† If someone is going to set some goals, why not set them high? That way if you falter in reaching your goals, you are still further ahead than with not having a goal at all. Let me give you an example of my self. I love to run. Well kind of. Particularly running the 400 meter race (for those of you don’t know, that’s one lap around the track). Now if I said I wanted to set a goal of running a 400 in 70 seconds I could do that. I could go and run†¦show more content†¦He lost eight elections, failed twice in business and suffered a nervous breakdown. He could have quit many times, but he didn’t and because he didn’t give up, he became one of the greatest presidents in the history of our country. Thomas Edison lit up the world, but only after many failed attempts did he actually get it right. A reporter came and asked Edison, How many times are you going to fail at creating the light bulb? Mr. Edison replied, Son, I havent failed! Ive simply discovered another way not to invent the light bulb! These are perfect examples of individuals who achieved their goals because they persevered and didn’t lose sight of their dream.
